My Help files are designed for beginners.

They show you how to use the major options of the various programmes.

I have kept to a minimum the amount of options included,

but there are enough to get you on your way.

Although my help files cover popular photo editing programmes,

many less known freeware free for use at no cost programmes contain similar options.

For example the excellent, Paint.net: http://www.getpaint.net/index.html

A word of advice won't go amiss! Before editing any photo, create two folders.

One folder for the original, and the second for any edited copies.

Save each edited photo with a different version or name.

Never be tempted to edit the original photo!

If for some unexpected reason something goes wrong

you will have the original photo to start all over again.

This is the link for the
Win Help version as supplied with many programmes - not supported in Microsoft Vista Windows. To open in Microsoft Vista, download the Win-Help viewer, the link for this is below. This Win-Help version opens in earlier Microsoft Windows versions Win3.1, Win 95, Win98X, 2000 and XP.

The button below is for the newer CHM Htm/Html type version: It opens and is supported in all Microsoft Windows versions.

See my conditions and download instructions below.

Download size for both versions is approximately 3 MB.

(At the moment only English versions exist. If someone wants to translate them into other languages that would be very nice indeed; feel free to do so. Unfortunately, I can't pay for this and it would have to be done voluntary.

Hebrew versions:
I am still working on the Hebrew language versions, and if someone wants to volunteer to help me do it, that would be really appreciated; I am sorry, but I can't pay you anything for doing this.)

Paint Shop Pro is a wonderful user friendly programme to use full of useful tools.

Windows Firewall may block the file opening, if so you will have to Unblock it. You may see a notification that this file has come from another computer. To unblock the file, Right click on the downloaded file and left click on Properties.

In the Properties, left click on Unblock if shown.

Due to the Microsoft Security update 896358 users on a network who wish to view .chm help files will need to alter the registry. Microsoft has released a support page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896358 giving various options. The following solution is from http://www.helpscribble.com/chmnetwork.html

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions
If this registry subkey does not exist, create it.
3. Right-click the ItssRestrictions subkey, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type MaxAllowedZone, and then press Enter.
5. Right-click the MaxAllowedZone value, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
7. Quit Registry Editor.

Another solution is to right click a downloaded file and in Windows Explorer right click on the file and left click on Properties. In Properties, left click the Unblock button. See Microsoft http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902225/ for more information.

WinHlp [Winhelp] files are not affected by the 896358.

If you find that in either Microsoft Vista or Microsoft Windows 7 you are unable to view a WinHlp type file then see below and download the appropriate file.

Note for Vista and Windows 7 there's a Microsoft programme which you can download, which lets you view WinHlp type files. Here are the links:

For Microsoft Vista Windows Help Viewer: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=82148

For Microsoft Windows 7 Windows Help Viewer: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=258aa5ec-e3d9-4228-8844-008e02b32a2c

xchm programme for Linux

.chm files can be opened with this programme. Check the Linux Repositories to download and install it. Many Linux distributions have this programme installed already. I haven't found a programme that will open Win-Help type files in Linux. The only advice I've seen is to decompile and create in the newer .CHM format HTM/HTML type file.

Emergency Registry Repair Procedure

Emergency Registry Repair Procedure: Microsoft has a fix that you can use.

Are you having the problem with installing Microsoft Windows XP Pro or Home SP3 updates after downloading them?

The problem occurs when you use your Windows XP Setup disk to repair Windows instead of undertaking a clean-fresh installation, though I have found it can also occur on a clean install: Although the files are on the Hard Disk, because of the new 2007 changes at Microsoft Update, the file that installs them is not registered in the Registry. I followed their instructions on the Microsoft Support page.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822798

The following is a link to a pdf file of the Microsoft Support page regarding non update of drivers in Microsoft Windows XP SP3.

Left click on the button below to download the pdf file.

You should also download and install the latest Windows 4.5 Redistributable (left click the download button and save it to desktop. It can be downloaded from Microsoft Updates: new computer programmes like Microsoft Office 2007/2010 and newer office versions may need this installer to install them. You have to Restart your computer after installation.

This is the download link for the latest Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable, which Microsoft says can update any earlier versions.
